  14. I started registering as a child, but I am the child's parent?

When you initially attempted to register using a child's birth date, your computer received a temporary Internet cookie (a simple text file) identifying you as a child. This is not done to inconvenience you or to violate your privacy, but to ensure that young children do not attempt to register as adults once they realize that there will be some limited restrictions on their account should they register as kids. To register as an adult, you will have to end your current Internet browser session by closing your browser. This should automatically delete the cookie on your system and allow you to register as an adult once you start a new browser session. If you still encounter this same problem, you will need to delete the cookie manually. First, you need to use your computer's "Find" function to locate a folder named "Cookies." Then open the folder and delete any cookies ending in "@disney.com" or "@go.com."

If you are under 13, your parent must enable this feature using Parental Controls and accepting Terms of Use on your behalf. If you are 13 or over, you can enable the True Friends feature by logging in to Your Account, accepting the Terms of Use (if you didn't do so during registration), and clicking on Enable Community Settings. 10. What is a "True Friend Code"? How do I get and use a "True Friend Code"?

A True Friend Code is used in the True Friends feature to let you chat freely with your real-life friends. Once the True Friends feature is enabled, you can request a True Friend Code from the Friends panel in the upper right corner of Disney.com. Click on the "Open Friend Maker" button to open a panel that will offer you the chance to either get a new True Friend Code, or to type in a True Friend Code from someone else. A True Friend Code is a temporary computer-generated code word that is assigned to you and to you alone. Each time you get a True Friend Code, a new random code will be assigned to you. Tell this True Friend Code to your real-life friend outside of the game. When your friend logs into Disney.com and enters the True Friend Code, the two of you will be marked as "True Friends" and you will be able to chat with each other. Your friend only has 48 hours to enter your True Friend Code. If he or she doesn't enter it in that time, it goes away, and you will have to get another one. But once you become true friends, you'll stay that way unless one of you decides to break the friendship. Each True Friend Code can only be entered by one real-life friend, and then it goes away. If you want to become True Friends with multiple people, you should get several True Friend Codes--one for each friend. For more information on how to chat safely online, please visit our safety page at: http://home.disney.go.com/guestservices/safety.

You can easily add up to 300 friends to your list or remove any friend from your list at any time.

back to Disney Destinations | back to top of page

  3. What is a Disney wedding going to cost?

For specifics, please visit our Disney Weddings home page.

back to Disney Destinations | back to top of page

  4. When can I reserve my wedding date?

Disney weddings can be tentatively booked 12 months in advance of your wedding date (based on availability). A minimum of seven days to plan an Intimate Wedding, and 30 days to plan a Custom Wedding, is required. We are able to confirm all Custom Wedding space eight months prior to your requested date. 11. What makes a Disney wedding unique?

The real "magic" surrounding a Disney Fairy Tale Wedding (or any wedding, for that matter) is the reunion of family and friends in such a special environment -- creating cherished memories that will last forever! However, many of our couples incorporate special touches that reflect the location or "theme" -- for a Cinderella wedding, many choose a wedding cake with a white chocolate castle as the topper ... or serve dessert in a white chocolate Cinderella slipper filled with mousse on a castle-design plate. Music can be used as a key element to set the tone or carry out the theme -- many of our couples choose classic Disney love songs for their first dance or ceremony music! For more information on wedding and honeymoon packages at our Parks and Resorts, please visit our Disney Weddings home page.

back to Disney Destinations | back to top of page

For more information on wedding and honeymoon packages at our Parks and Resorts, please visit our Disney Weddings home page.

back to Disney Destinations | back to top of page

  13. How much will it cost to have a Disney vow renewal?

The same requirements for our wedding packages apply to your vow renewal; it all depends on what you have in mind. Choose a simple ceremony for the two of you and up to eight guests, or go all out with a reunion of family and friends and the extravagant wedding you've always dreamed of. Your Disney Wedding Planning Team can make it happen. For more information on wedding and honeymoon packages at our Parks and Resorts, please visit our Disney Weddings home page.

It was the first cartoon to have successfully synchronized sound, and was a big success. Mickey went on to star in over 120 different cartoons, and also starred in "The Mickey Mouse Club" television show of the 1950s. Eventually there were 128 Donald Duck cartoons, but he also appeared in a number of others with Mickey Mouse, Goofy, and Pluto. A daily Donald Duck newspaper comic strip began on February 7, 1938. 18. Why does Donald Duck wear a towel when getting out of the shower when he usually doesn't even wear pants?

Donald puts a towel when he gets out of the shower to dry off! When he gets out of the shower he's pretty wet and doesn't want to drip water all over the bathroom floor. Seriously, Donald Duck was created as a human-like character. He reacts to many situations the same way that a man would. Since a man would normally wrap a towel around his waist when stepping out of the shower, so does Donald. You can find lots more information about Donald Duck and all of your favorite Disney characters in our online Disney Archives.

  22. What is Goofy? When did he debut?

Goofy is a dog! Good-natured but not that bright, this cartoon character made his first appearance, somewhat disguised, as a member of the audience in "Mickey's Revue" (1932). What distinguished the character from those sitting around him was not so much his appearance but his raucous laugh. That laugh made such an impression on Walt Disney and his staff that the character soon began to be featured in other cartoons. Before long, Goofy was part of the gang that included Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Clarabelle Cow, and Horace Horsecollar. In the newspaper comic strips, this new character was first given the name Dippy Dawg. A 1938 book indicated the first change to Dippy's name, "The Story of Dippy the Goof," and by 1939 the final change was made to Goofy with the release of the cartoon "Goofy and Wilbur." Goofy was created as a human character, as opposed to Pluto, who was a pet, so he walked upright and had a speaking voice. There were 48 Goofy cartoons (primarily in the 1940s and 1950s), but he also appeared in many cartoons with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck. He was best known for his series of "How to" cartoons, where he bumbled through the explanations. In the 1950s, he appeared in several cartoons as Mr. Geef, with a wife and son. The 1990s television series "The Goof Troop" reintroduced Goofy and son, but by this time the son was Max, quite different from his earlier incarnation, and the wife was no longer on the scene. 26. Who was the mother of Goofy's son Max?

There is unfortunately no answer to this question. In the 1950s, Goofy appeared in a series of cartoons that also featured a son, then called "Goofy Junior." In a few of these cartoons, we heard an off-screen voice of a "Mrs. Goofy" character. Years later, when the television show "Goof Troop" was being created, Goofy Junior evolved into Max and Mrs. Goofy was no longer on the scene. Because these are fictional characters, they do not have real biographies and we can only go by what appears on the screen. Perhaps someday there will be another movie or television show that will explain who Max's mother is and where "Mrs. Goofy" went, but until that time, there is no definitive answer. 28. Was Pluto originally called by another name? When did he debut? What kind of a dog is he?

The dog that would eventually evolve into Pluto made his debut as a bloodhound in the Mickey Mouse cartoon "The Chain Gang" in 1930. Later that year he appeared as Minnie Mouse's dog, Rover, in "The Picnic," and the following year finally became Mickey's dog Pluto in "The Moose Hunt." Mickey's faithful pet Pluto starred in 48 of his own cartoons, but also appeared along with Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck in many of their cartoons. Pluto was created as an actual dog character, with no speaking voice, as opposed to Goofy, who was created as a human character. 40. Who is Mortimer Mouse?

Mortimer is the name that Walt Disney had originally suggested for Mickey Mouse. Mickey Mouse was born in Walt's imagination in March, 1928, when Walt was returning from an unsuccessful business meeting in New York City at which he lost the rights to an earlier cartoon character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. Walt and his wife, Lilly, were riding the train back to California when Walt started to doodle a cartoon mouse. He thought the mouse should be named Mortimer. Lilly didn't like that idea and suggested "Mickey." When they got to California, Walt brought his original sketches to Ub Iwerks, who refined and developed the appearance of the character. Mickey Mouse (not Mortimer) debuted in "Steamboat Willie" at the Colony Theatre in New York City on November 18, 1928, and was a great success. 44. What is Winnie the Pooh's birthday?

The Walt Disney Company does not recognize any date as the official birthday of Winnie the Pooh. In fact, we only officially recognize three character birthdays -- Mickey and Minnie Mouse (November 18, 1928) and Donald Duck (June 9, 1934). One reason we don't celebrate a birthday for Winnie the Pooh is that we didn't create the character. He was created by author A.A. Milne and has existed in story form since the mid-1920s; he was first animated by Disney artists in "Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree" in 1966. Winnie the Pooh (known as Edward Bear in his early appearances in "When We Were Very Young") had a real-life career as the favorite toy of Christopher Milne (son of author A.A. Milne). The bear, given to Milne for his first birthday in 1921, still exists and can be visited in the Children's Reading Room of the New York Public Library on West 53rd Street. We have heard rumors that both Canada and England celebrate Pooh's birthday, but since this is not affiliated with Disney, we don't know what day they celebrate. 3. When was the company founded?

The Walt Disney Company started in 1923 in the rear of a small office occupied by Holly-Vermont Realty in Los Angeles. It was there that Walt Disney, and his brother Roy, produced a series of short live-action/animated films collectively called the ALICE COMEDIES. The rent was a mere $10 a month. Within four months, the ever-growing staff moved next door to larger facilities, where the sign on the window read "Disney Bros. Studio." A year later, in 1925, the Disneys made a deposit on a Hyperion Avenue lot in the Silver Lake district of Los Angeles. Construction began on the new studio shortly thereafter. During the next 14 years, many changes took place at the Disney studio: Mickey Mouse was "born" in 1928, followed by Pluto, Goofy, Donald Duck, and the rest of the Disney gang. You can find lots of information about our company on The Walt Disney Company home page. You can also find lots of information on the founding and early history of the Studio at The Walt Disney Studios History home page.

    5. What was the first Disney film produced at the Studio?

The Studio produced numerous short cartoon features, starting with a series of short live-action/animated films in the early 1920s collectively called the ALICE COMEDIES and eventually following up with the cartoon adventures of Mickey Mouse, Pluto, Goofy, Donald Duck, and the rest of the Disney gang. The first feature-length animated film produced by the Studio -- indeed, the first feature-length animated film ever produced -- was "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." The film opened on December 21, 1937, to great success. You can find lots of information about our company on The Walt Disney Company home page. 7. When did the Studio move to its current location?

In 1937, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" became an immediate success and proved the worldwide market for animated features. In order to expand and meet the expectations of his audience, Walt saw a need to increase the size of his studio. With profits from "Snow White," he made a deposit on 51 acres of land in Burbank and began designing a modern studio specifically for the purpose of making animated films. Walt was personally involved with all aspects of designing the studio. From the layout of the buildings to design of the animators' chairs, nothing was left to chance. There are a few basic things you can do to speed up the action:

        • Surf the Web during low-traffic times, like Saturday and Sunday.

      8. I noticed some editorial errors while watching a Disney video. Were they always in the film?

Yes, probably. Home videos and DVDs offer the ability to watch a movie scene over and over, and it is therefore possible to find inconsistencies that you would not have noticed in the theater. All movies have discrepancies in continuity due to the filming and editing process. On every film people are assigned to oversee continuity, but inconsistencies still do occur. Many of the inconsistencies from our classic features remained undiscovered for several decades, until their home video releases. Often these become interesting points of trivia for film buffs and historians. The Disney animation teams that create our features spend a great amount of time and effort to make the best movie possible and the workmanship behind the animation on our film is unparalleled. We hope that you enjoyed the video. For the latest news and information, please visit our Disney Video and DVD home page.

      6. How do I know if one of your films is appropriate for my young child?

We cannot provide a definitive answer to that question. Walt Disney Pictures strives at all times to provide fun, quality entertainment that the whole family can enjoy together, but only you know your child well enough to determine what kind material is appropriate for him or her. If you are concerned about a particular film, you should:
        • Visit our Walt Disney Pictures home page. Read about the film in question and download any available trailers and film content to determine if it is appropriate for your child.
        • Note the rating given to the film by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). A "G: General Audiences" rating indicates that the MPAA Ratings Board does not consider any of the material in the film to be offensive to parents whose younger children view the film. A "PG: Parental Guidance Suggested" rating indicates that the Ratings Board recommends that the film be examined or inquired into by parents before they let their children attend.
        • For more information on the MPAA ratings system, please visit the Motion Picture Association of America home page.
        • Talk to other parents you know who have already seen the film and solicit their opinions.

If you are still concerned, you may wish to consider viewing the film in advance before taking your child to see it. We hope that these tips are helpful to you and that you will enjoy the film! For the latest information about our current and upcoming releases, please visit our Walt Disney Pictures home page.

back to Movies | back to top of page

      7. Why do you make PG films?

Our films are not written for a specific rating. They are produced by us, and then rated after completion by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). In our effort to make quality, family-friendly entertainment, the majority of our films are geared to a general audience and receive a "G" rating. However, our primary goal is tell an entertaining story and sometimes a story dictates that we introduce elements for which the MPAA will award a film a "PG" rating. Please understand that a "G" rating does not mean that a movie is a children's film and a "PG" or "PG-13" rating does not necessarily mean that a film is inappropriate for children. A "PG" rating indicates that some parents may consider some material unsuitable for their children, but the parent must make the decision. The "PG-13" rating suggests that some material may not be suitable for children under 13 years old and is thus an alert that parents might want to examine a film before deciding whether their children should view it. For more information on the MPAA ratings system, please visit the Motion Picture Association of America home page. For the latest information about our current and upcoming releases, please visit our Walt Disney Pictures home page.

      8. I had a problem with my local theater (with ticket prices, seating, concession sales, etc.) when I went to see one of your movies and they said it was due to a Disney policy. What happened?

We do not dictate admission or concession prices, availability of seating, or any other theater practice. We suggest that you refer the problem you experienced back to the manager of the theater you attended.

back to Movies | back to top of page

      9. The factual details in some of your films seem inaccurate. Why make them that way?

Our primary goal is tell an entertaining, family-friendly story, and sometimes a story dictates that the filmmakers take certain creative liberties during the filmmaking process. Perhaps that is what occurred in the films to which you're referring. For the latest information about our current and upcoming releases, please visit our Walt Disney Pictures home page.

      5. Nothing happens when I try to stream music. What's wrong?

First, make sure you're clicking on a piece of art or text that is intended to initiate the streaming music video or audio. You may need to wait for the file to load. On some computers, loading occurs with no "status box" to show that the file is loading into the player.

back to Music | back to top of page

      6. I tried to sample music clip or watch a music video but the process quits in the middle. What's wrong?

There are several possible reasons: Your server went down in the middle of the process, the server timed out, communications between your machine and Disney.com were interrupted, or your machine didn't have enough memory available to continue the process to the end. Click your browser's Refresh or Reload button and let the entire page appear before you try to sample the music clip or watch the music video again. Contact Customer Service for additional support.

back to Music | back to top of page

      7. I tried to sample music clip or watch a music video, but I received an error message and then the file stops streaming. What's wrong?

There are many reasons for getting error messages, including typos, timeouts, or download interruptions. First, check your spelling, and then press your Enter or Return key to try again to reach the URL (or "Uniform Resource Locator," which translates to the I.P. aka "Internet Protocol" address of an Internet page). If you get a "Document contains no data" error message, there may be a mistake in the link or a problem with the program that generates the page. Try reloading or refreshing the page. A "timeout" message happens when your browser is waiting for a page to be sent from a server and the server has not responded in a specified amount of time. This occurs if the site is very busy or your service provider is having problems. It can also be caused by your modem becoming disconnected. Check to see if your modem is connected. If the problem persists, contact your service provider. A "transfer interrupted" message means that your browser didn't receive all the information (text, graphics, etc.) needed to "create," or build, the page. Try clicking your browser's Refresh or Reload button, and let the entire page appear before clicking on a link. If a "server error" message appears, that means the problem is on our end (the server is the computer where Disney.com is stored), and you can rest assured that we're aware of the problem and are working on it. Server problems are usually fixed in a matter of minutes. For up-to-date information on common error messages generated during music downloads, visit the Real Player Customer Support Page.

        2. If you have external speakers, make sure the speakers are plugged in and turned on, and that their volume is turned up.
        3. Check your computer's sound control. Make sure it's on, that the volume is turned up, and that the speakers are chosen as the sound output source.

      3. I've received notification of a D-Card in my e-mail. How do I view the card?

The e-mail that you received notifying you that you received a D-Card included a Web link for the card. To view your D-Card, just click on the link. The link URL (Web site address) may be very long, so it is possible that your e-mail program may "wrap" the URL (splitting it into two separate lines). If so, you may need to manually copy or type the full retrieval URL directly into the address field of your Internet browser to view your card. Enjoy your D-Card!

back to D-Cards | back to top of page

      4. I have deleted the e-mail notifying me of a D-Card I received. If I give you my e-mail address and the sender's e-mail address, can you find it for me?

Due to privacy restrictions and other issues, we are not able to do this for you. You may wish to contact the person who sent you the D-Card. When a D-Card is sent, both the sender and the recipient receive a copy of the notification e-mail. The person who sent you the card may still have his/her copy, and could forward the D-Card retrieval URL (Web site address).

Most of our games require the Shockwave Player plug-in. The Shockwave Player is a plug-in (helper application) manufactured by Macromedia, Inc., that allows your Internet browser to display rich, engaging, and interactive Web content. When you click on a game, we will automatically check to see if you have the proper plug-in to play. 4. Why didn't my creation get approved for sharing?

      6. How do I earn D-points on CREATE?

D-Points are earned while playing the activities. For example, when you draw pictures using Digital Painter, you will be earning D-Points. The more time you spend creating, the more D-Points you will earn. You also earn D-Points every time you rate someone else's creations. The best way to earn a ton of D-Points is to share your creations - and ask your friends who visit Disney.com to give you stars. Every time they do, you will earn D-Points -- and they earn D-points too, just for posting their rating!

back to Online Games and Activities | back to top of page

      7. How do I earn Stars?

You get Stars when people rate your creations. You first have to share your creation with everyone. Then your friends can search for your creations and rate them. This will earn you Stars. See other people's creations that you like? Give them Stars as well! You will earn D-Points when you do this.

back to Online Games and Activities | back to top of page

      8. How do you choose the "Currently Popular" items?

The items that are featured in "Currently Popular" are selected agorithmically. That means that a computer picks them automatically based on several parameters. Three of key parameters that are considered by the algorithm are the number of stars earned, the age of the creation, and a computer-determined "goodness" factor.

back to Online Games and Activities | back to top of page

      9. How can I get my creations into the "Currently Popular" list?

First, create lots of art to share this will increase your chances that others will give you Stars. Then tell your family and friends your D-Name or the title of your art, and ask that they give you Stars! Newer art will have a higher chance of appearing in the "Currently Popular" list, so come back often!

      Print Activities

      1. Is there any special software that I need for your print activities?

You do not need any special plug-ins or helper applications to enjoy our print activities. All you need is an Internet browser capable of supporting Web frames. Most newer browsers are already frames-capable. If your browser does not support frames, you may wish to consider downloading a newer one. Here are the top three browser sites for downloading updates:
        1. For Internet Explorer updates, please visit the Microsoft.com Download Center.
        2. For Safari updates, please visit Apple's Safari page.
        3. For Firefox, go to the Mozilla Firefox page.

      2. I am clicking on "print" but nothing is happening.

To print an image from one of our print centers, such as Pixie Hollow Printables, or Playhouse Disney Printables wait for the image to completely finish loading in your Internet browser, click once on the image to select it, and then press your Internet browser's "Print" button. You can find lots of printing activity fun by visiting our Activity Center home page.

back to Online Games and Activities | back to top of page

      3. When I click to print one of your printable images, it's printing out the entire Web page.

If you are printing an image from one of our print centers, please be sure to click once on the fully loaded image before you click your Internet browser's "Print" button. Our print center images are displayed within Web frames, which are essentially separate Web pages. By clicking on a printable image, you are making its Web frame the "active" frame and indicating to your Internet browser that you only want to print out the images in that frame. If you are printing a coloring page found On Disney Magic Artist Online home page, please note that those pages are simple image files imbedded within their respective Web pages. They are not displayed in a separate frame. If you click your browser's Print button, your browser will automatically print the entire page. It will not isolate the coloring page from the remaining elements on the Web page. To print the coloring page image separately, click on the Print icon next to the image.

The Surf Swell Island is a quiz-driven adventure game to help teach children about Internet safety. We at The Walt Disney Company believe that children learn best when they are relaxed and having fun. That is why we have chosen to address the very serious topic of Internet safety through a fun and engaging forum. Internet safety material is presented in a series of three games, each featuring a classic Disney character and focusing on an area of concern: privacy, viruses, or netiquette (guidelines for behavior on the Internet). Each of the three games is followed by a mini-quiz reinforcing what was presented in the game. The exciting Challenge of Doom mega-quiz brings together the content from the first three games. Answering correctly gives children access to a collection of fun Surf Swell-themed activities located in the password-protected Treasure Palace. The site includes helpful guides to assist parents and teachers in educating children on Internet safety and etiquette. To begin your journey, please visit our Surf Swell Island home page.

      10. Why are Guests outside of the United States and Canada restricted from entering your contests?

We regret that our international Guests are not able to participate in many of our online contests. The message that you receive is your Internet browser reacting to elements that you download FROM our site using a non-secure connection, not to any of the secure information you are transmitting to us. 6. How do I audition to be on one of your shows?

As with any career, education and practice are important. A good first step would be to discuss your interests with a school counselor or drama teacher, if you are still in school. We suggest you familiarize yourself with any local theatre group in your area, and read the entertainment industry trade papers, which are available at most libraries. In these you will find advertisements for upcoming auditions. Also, The Walt Disney Company employs thousands of performers for the various Theme Parks and Resorts. Auditions are held regularly to cast singers, dancers, actors, DJs and VJs, musicians, and bands. For information on these exciting opportunities, please visit our Disney Careers site. Then, click on "Events and Auditions." When you feel ready to do so, you might consider finding an agent. Their job is to locate work suitable for you. As most film and television organizations require agency representation, having an agent is almost essential for getting paid work. Please understand that we cannot recommend a particular agent or talent agency. For information on how to find an agent in your area, please consult your local entertainment trade papers or the career and entertainment sections of your local library. We hope these suggestions are helpful to you. We admire your enthusiasm, and wish you much success.

        You absolutely need three things:
        • IE or Firefox versions 7.0 or later
        • Flash, version 5 or later
It is recommended (though not required) that you have the following:
        • Shockwave 10

You can download these applications free from our online Software Center.

back to Television | back to top of page

      5. If my game doesn't work, what do I do?

If you get a black screen or a blank screen that starts to load and then just stops and freezes, you probably just need to get newer versions of Shockwave and Flash. If you've already done that, try downloading them one more time to make sure you have the newest versions and no system conflicts. Things change very fast in cyberspace. If you've done all this and still get a black screen, there's a possibility you may not have INSTALLED Shockwave and Flash. When you downloaded, you told Macromedia to put your plug-ins in a certain folder on your hard drive. Go to that folder, open it, then double click on the Shockwave and Flash icons so it will install. That should do the trick. Don't forget to close your browser and restart your computer after installing.

back to Television | back to top of page

      6. If my game still doesn't work, what do I do?

        Did you ...
        • Get a "won't connect" message?
        • Hear music playing but saw no buttons to click?
        • See the game start loading then just stop?
        • See the title of the game but nothing else?

You probably just need to RELOAD your page. Go to the "Reload" button at the top of your browser window. This is a great way to get rid of little glitches that might affect your computer.
